==== Changing Your Username ====

We're a friendly group, and we encourage members to use real (or real-sounding) names, rather than "handles". We've found this contributes to a more congenial and respectful atmosphere. Your first name is fine, or your favorite nickname - whatever you're comfortable with. We'd just like to know what to call you when we're replying to you.

To change your username, follow these steps:


  - Click on User CP at the top of the page to go to the User Control Panel.\\  {{:user_cp.png?400|}}\\ \\   
  - Scroll down until you see "Edit Profile" and click on the option to "Change Username".\\  {{:change_username.png?200|}}\\  \\  
  - Type the name you'd like to be known by into the "New Username" box. **Keep in mind that this will become the username that you use to log in to the forum, so you'll want to choose a name that's easy for you to remember!**
  - Type in your password to confirm the change.
  - Click "Update Username".\\  {{:update_username.png?600|}}\\  

To avoid being confused with other members, pick something that's likely to be unique. If your nickname is the same as another member's (e.g., two members both using the nickname "John"), staff members may ask you to add the first initial of your last name or some other unique identifier (e.g., "John from St Louis") to your nickname to avoid confusion.
